Takoma Park Child Development Center (TPCDC) is an independently operated, non-profit organization which operates three programs for children: a Toddler Program, a Preschool program and a School Age program. TPCDC is located in the heart of Takoma Park's historic district just three blocks from the Metro. The Center was founded in 1981 and has grown to be an integral part of Takoma Park and the surrounding community.
Hours of Operation
TPCDC is open daily from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.
The Center is open 12 months per year, including some periods when Montgomery County Public Schools are closed.
Enrollment Options
TPCDC offers flexible enrollment options. Children may attend for full days, for morning or afternoon sessions, or for any combination of these options (space permitting). Children may enroll for one through five days per week. All schedules must be contracted.

TPCDC has a variety of flexible enrollment options. For other tuition rates, please call the Center.
A Sibling Discount is offered to families with two or more children enrolled at TPCDC. 10% is deducted from the monthly tuition rate of the child with the lowest tuition.
TPCDC has a limited scholarship fund to assist families in need. TPCDC also works with the Department of Social Services to provide tuition assistance to families who demonstrate financial need.
Scheduled Early Dismissal Days
TPCDC is open on scheduled early dismissal days. If your child is registered for before and after school or just after school at TPCDC on these days,
there will be no extra charge. The monthly tuition does pay for and include the following early release dates :
- September 27th
- November 9th and 10th
- February 27th
Inclement Weather Days
On days when schools have delayed openings or early closings due to inclement weather, TPCDC will be open, provided that the safety of the staff and
children is not in jeopardy. This will be at the discretion of the Director. Please call the Center on these days to find out if TPCDC will be open.
If your child is registered for before and after school at TPCDC on these days, there will be no extra charge. If you child is not registered for before and
after school on these days you myst check with the Director to find out if there is space available and you mus pay a supplmental fee.

School Ager "Camps"

Camp #1

This camp covers the following 6 days - 9/13, 10/19, 11/1, 1/22, 3/4, & 4/7.
The fee is $300.00 and must be contracted by September 7th.

This camp covers the following 4 days of winter break - 12/24, 12/27, 12/28, & 12/31.
The fee is $200.00 and must be contracted by November 14th.

This camp covers the following 6 days of spring break - 3/21, 3/24 thru 3/28.
The fee is $300.00 and must be contracted by February 25th.

TPCDC Staff
TPCDC employs a well-qualified and highly dedicated staff. All staff are certified by Maryland’s Child Care Licensing Division and participate in regular professional training. TPCDC prides itself on attracting superior staff and retaining them for many years.
Mission
The primary mission of TPCDC is to provide children with a safe and nurturing environment where a positive sense of self, feelings of trust and security, and a love for learning and respect or others will develop. The Center is also dedicated to promoting a harmonious, diverse community, and to supporting families by providing consistent, convenient, affordable and high quality child care.
TPCDC's Goals for Children

The Toddler Program
Children from 18 months to about 2.5 years are eligible for the toddler program. The student/teacher ratio averages 3:1 to ensure the highest quality of care for our youngest. The toddler program focuses on helping children achieve developmental milestones in a nurturing atmosphere.
The Preschool Program
The Preschool program is designed for children from 2.5 to 5 years. Group skills, cooperation, and developing a positive sense of self are important components of the Preschool curriculum. The student/teacher ratio in the preschool classrooms does not exceed 7:1. Children learn basic skills while having fun!
The Curriculum
TPCDC’s curriculum draws on well-established child development and learning theories. Teachers work with children at their own pace to foster independence, cooperation, critical thinking skills, and overall development. TPCDC believes that play is the work of children and teachers provide children with creative engaging experiences through which learning unfolds.
School Age Program
During the school year, TPCDC offers a before-and-after school program for children ages 6-12. Children may attend the morning option, the afternoon option or both programs. In addition children may choose to attend every day, or if space is available, contract to come only certain days of the week.
The school year program involves diverse activities, including art, music, movement, discussion groups and other lively activities designed to appeal to elementary school students, including their own playground with basketball hoop. A homework corner provides a quiet place for children who wish to do their school work.
The Center follows federal government closings for weather and therefore is often open when the public schools close. On these days, TPCDC offers full day programs for schoolagers. For an additional fee, families may also contract for full day care on other days when the schools are scheduled to be closed, such as teacher work days or school holidays when special “camps” are offered.
The Summer School Age Program
TPCDC offers a full-day summer program during the public school summer recess. This program can be contracted either for the full ten weeks, or in two-week sessions.
The summer program is designed to offer a creative and exciting way to spend hot summer days. The program makes use of local parks and swimming facilities, and sponsors regular field trips. Each session focuses on a special theme such as nature, music and movement, the circus, or sports.
